Editing

Developmental Editing
A developmental edit is a story-level review of your book. I’ll look at how your whole narrative holds together, identify plot holes, help sharpen your pacing, ensure characters are acting consistently and that your major themes are making an impact.
This type of edit does not correct typos or grammar mistakes—it’s all about the big picture.
I have the most experience in editing fantasy or historical fiction but am open to working with other genres.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
I’ll provide feedback on your manuscript in two forms: comments on specific issues inserted throughout the narrative and a written report on overarching themes. My quote will also include a one-hour call to discuss any of the feedback or suggestions I’ve provided.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
A developmental edit of your book will cost between $20 to $40 per 1,000 words, depending on the amount of work your manuscript needs. I am happy to review the first 10 pages or 3,000 words of your book to provide you with a quote and estimated turnaround time.
LINE EDITING
Are you feeling solid about your story structure, or have you already worked with a developmental editor? Now it’s time to sharpen up your prose. A line edit is a sentence-by-sentence review of your book where I look for grammar issues, clarity and style.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
I’ll provide your edits via tracked changes in a Word document of your book. This makes it easy for you to review, accept or alter my recommendations.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
A line edit of your manuscript will be between $15 to $30 per 1000 words, depending on what your manuscript requires. I am happy to provide a free sample line edit of the first 10 pages or 3,000 words of your book and will use that to develop a formal quote and estimated turnaround time for you.

BOOK LAYOUT DESIGN
I provide elegant layouts for paperbacks, hardcovers, large print editions and ebooks. Because I utilize InDesign and edit the code of your ebook directly, I can handle a wide range of special design requests, from footnotes and illustrations to cleanly executing complex typography.
I take my time and review every page to ensure your book is free of errors and fully print-ready.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
You send me your manuscript in Word or Rich Text Format, along with any special requests for how you want your book to look. I will use that to develop a quote for the project. Before laying out your manuscript, I’ll provide you with three different sample page styles to choose from. At the end of the project, I’ll send complete ready-to-upload files for each format you selected.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Laying out your book in a single format of your choice costs between $150 and $250 depending on the length and complexity of the project. Additional formats range from $75 to $150. I can provide you with an exact quote based on a few questions about your manuscript.
